Willow Tree in False Colour

Once humble beginnings over 70 years ago as a wooden fence post charged with keeping stock from wandering, the Wanaka Willow has become the beautiful tree we see today, set ofshore on Lake Wanaka. Otago New Zealand. It has to be the most photographed tree in New Zealand.

Wairau Frost Protection

Wairau Valley in the northern region onf New Zealands South Island is a large wine making area, with many different vinyards dotted around the landscape. The windmills, are not used to create power, rather to keep the air moving at night when frosts threaten the vines, which still have grapes on them.

High Contrast Monochromatic

Recently I seem to have moved away from my usual gritty monochrome work and have been producing images with much higher contrast, leaving little tonal detail in the subject and therefore creating a more pure monochromatic image.

These fit this weeks challenge I believe as they are indeed half and half, black and white with very little tonal detail between the 2 extremes.

12 from 2014

Well it’s nearly the end of the year again. 2014 seems to have gone quicker than all those before it, a symptom of getting older perhaps?

It’s been a hell of a year for me, massive upheaval at leaving my old job and emigrating with the family to New Zealand.

Moving from a city of over a million people to a town of around 50,000 has brought new subject challenges for me, gone are much of the gritty urban shots and urban dereliction which defined my style and content, and in have come more natural landscapes and seascapes, not subject matters with which I am totally comfortable, still it’s good to test yourself and put yourself outside your comfort zone.

Below is a selection of my favorite images taken in 2014, one from each month.

I would like to wish all my followers old and new a very Happy Christmas, and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
