Shadow & Light

This is a staircase on the side of a 1970’s concrete building in Wellington, New Zealand. The whole building is a brilliant example of brutalist architecture.

I spent ages working on this image, trying to find the correct balance of shadow and light, and the right amount of detail within the shadow. I suspect it will be an image I return to again and again tweaking and changing, as my mood takes me.

I loved the regimented line up of door handles on these open doors leading to Wellington Station.

Windows Making Grids

This weeks Photo Challenge is Grids.

Here are 3 completely different shots of windows, creating the effect of a grid.

High Contrast Monochromatic

Recently I seem to have moved away from my usual gritty monochrome work and have been producing images with much higher contrast, leaving little tonal detail in the subject and therefore creating a more pure monochromatic image.

These fit this weeks challenge I believe as they are indeed half and half, black and white with very little tonal detail between the 2 extremes.
